Moong dal, a hearty Indian dish that provides fiber and protein as well as other essential nutrients.
- 2 Tbs oil
- ½ tsp whole cumin seeds
- 1 slit green chilly
- 10-12 curry leaves if available
- 1 big onion chopped
- 1 big tomato cubed
- ½ tsp each ginger and garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp chilly powder
- ½ tsp garam masala powder
- 100 gms whole green moong dal,
- salt to taste
- ¼ cup chopped coriander leaves.
Method: Soak the green whole moong for 2 hours.
Heat oil in a pan and add whole cumin seeds, curry leaves, slit chilly stirring for a minute. Add chopped onion and fry for 3-4 minutes till soft. Add tomato. Stir well a couple of minutes. Add the garlic and ginger paste, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, chilly powder, garam masala. Mix well. Then add 2 ½ cups of water, dal, and salt to taste. Allow it to cook for on medium flame for 20 minutes till soft. Once it is cooked garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves.
