- 3 Fillets Cod, Halibut, Catfish
- 2 medium Onions
- 5 medium Potatoes
- 2 Tomatoes or 2 Tbsp Tomato paste
- ½ inch Ginger or ½ tsp ginger paste
- 8-10 cloves Garlic or 1 Tbsp garlic paste
- ½ tsp Turmeric powder
- ½ tsp chili powder (more if desired)
- ½ tsp Cumin powder
- 1 tsp Garam masala
- 2 Tbsp Oil/Ghee
- ½ cup chopped fresh coriander
Wash and dry the fish and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Finely chop the onions, cube the tomatoes and potatoes. Cut and crush the garlic, ginger, if using fresh.
Heat oil in a kadai/ pan. Fry onions till transparent, add tomatoes/tomato paste and fry stirring well till oil separates. Add garlic and ginger and fry for a couple minutes. Add turmeric, chili powder, cumin powder and garam masala. Add salt to taste. Stir. Add potatoes and cook for 3-5 minutes, adding water if necessary till potatoes are about halfway cooked.
Move the mixture to the edge of the pan, add a little oil and fish and cover with the mixture and cook for 10 minutes on medium heat, partially covered or till fish is cooked. It should flake when tested with a fork. Move the fish slightly to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Do not stir or break the fillet.
Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve with Naan or rice.
