Quilt Raffle Supports Anti – Abuse Program

This quilt is being raffled to raise money to support the artisans of MarketPlace: Handwork of India fight Domestic Violence

At the Maple Leaf Quilters‘s annual retreat this year  they decided to make a chicken-themed quilt for MarketPlace. This was actually their third chicken quilt.  The first two quilts were made to raise money for a trip to Mongolia where they taught women to quilt.  “It was a great experience.  We did not speak their language and vice versa but we got along real well. Quilting is an international language.”Said Carol Honderich.

Maple Leaf Quilters is based in Goshen, Indiana and has made and donated many quilts.  The chicken design quilt was originally designed by Mary Lou Weidman http://www.marylouquiltdesigns.com/.  For this MarketPlace quilt, a few guild members selected fabrics from the assortment sent to them by MarketPlace.  They put together kits so that all the members could make a square with a unique chicken figure.  Then all the squares were collected, pieced together, and quilted to produce this fun quilt.
