MarketPlace has always placed a high priority on putting artisans and customers in communication with each other, whether through letters, photographs or visits. Recently, women on both continents found common ground … on the runway!
In Mumbai, a cooperative decided to do a fashion show as part of a celebration that included songs, dances and plays as well. Each artisan chose a MarketPlace item or outfit and styled it herself, even walking the runway with Attitude. After this experience, the artisans expressed interest in knowing more about how the customers wear their MarketPlace clothing, what outfits they put together and where they go in them. We would love to receive photographs of YOU wearing your MarketPlace purchases so we can share them with the artisans! Send your pictures to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Meanwhile, in Evanston, MarketPlace partnered with Ten Thousand Villages for another fashion show extravaganza. About 40 people attended this colorful event, with customers from around Chicagoland graciously volunteering to act as models. The event kicked off with attendees enjoying some wine and cheese, followed by a strolling fashion show of MarketPlace clothing and Ten Thousand Villages accessories. Pushpika and Lalita were on hand to MC and talk about block printing and the importance of hand embroidery to our mission.
