Marketplace’s Spring Benefit–a Success!

On April 14th 2011, Marketplace held a Spring Benefit and fundraiser in Andersonville at In Fine Spirits.  The benefit immediately followed the Women & Children First book signing event next door featuring Mary Littrell and Marsha Dickson, authors of a new book Artisans and Fair Trade: Crafting Development.  Marsha and Mary joined us at the benefit as special guests and shared personal stories of their experiences researching the socio-economic impacts of fair trade artisan work featuring Marketplace’s artisans.

Overall, the lively group of about 55 or so was made up of Marketplace staff, the junior board, the main board, and most importantly, Marketplace friends and supporters.  The crowd mingled, made merchandise purchases (who would’ve known that the the Ruffled Scarf, a new spring item, is in such high demand?), and bid on several silent auction items.  We are grateful to have had so many businesses and individuals provide generous auction items ranging from spa gift certificates at Resonance to a handmade art piece by Indira Freitas to local restaurant certificates such as Ann Sather and Big JonesIn Fine Spirits was our gracious host and proved why they are an Andersonville “hotspot” with the excellent food and wine.  Thanks so much to all our loyal Marketplace fans who made the night so successful!  See you at our next event.
