About Us

See our website at www.MarketPlaceIndia.com.

For the last 30 years, since MarketPlace began, I have felt that one of my biggest challenges is how to convey to you, our customers, the true inside story of the lives, challenges, and triumphs of the artisans. Now, we have a chance to do just that, thanks to our brand-new MarketPlace blog!

For those of you who are new to us, MarketPlace: Handwork of India is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing economic opportunities for over 480 women artisans in India, and empowering them to bring about changes in their lives, their families, and their communities. Since MarketPlace began in 1986, women who were formerly unemployed, “unemployable”, or desperately underemployed have been building new lives around rewarding work, educational opportunities and social support.

As you read about the artisans’ strength, determination, and humor on our blog, please consider contributing to the programs that help  support each women’s  growth and success. SHARE is the non-profit we work with in Mumbai, which organizes and oversees the social and educational programs for the cooperatives. Their social workers and administrators involve the artisans directly at all levels of decision-making as they collaborate in the design of all social programs and manage their own independent cooperatives.

And we want to hear from you!  Post comments, questions, and let us know what you think.

Thank you,
Pushpika Freitas
President

    1. I have been trying to order a reversible jacket online from you but when I click on the item and size and send to order, I get the reply that my bag is empty. Are you all right? I’m very concerned.

      1. Hello, Mel. Yes, we are all right. Sounds like you have a technological glitch when using our website. For help in resolving it, call our Customer Service number at 800-726-8905 and talk to one of our great reps. A rep can take your order and help you with the empty shopping bag issue. If it can’t be solved during the phone call, it will be forwarded to our website team.
